How to search for academic jobs

Unfortunately there isn’t a true “one-stop shop” for academic job searches (at least in the U.S.). Here are some common sites institutions use to advertise academic jobs; many of these are Humanities (specifically Literature and Cultural Studies) focused, and mostly U.S. based.

It’s advisable to bookmark and check sites weekly, or set up an RSS Feed so you’ll get automatic notifications. Listings often appear in the late spring or summer (generally starting in late May or June), while deadlines are often between August to November. Recent years have seen a more flexible cycle, though, so it’s worth keeping an eye on these sites year-round.

If you have a site to suggest that doesn’t appear below, feel free to contact me.

Note: Most of these sites will require a combination of filtering and searching. Cast a broad net with your search terms. For example, if I work in Asian/American literature and culture, I would search for “Asian America”; “Asian American”; “Asia”; “Literature”; “English”; “Race”; “Ethnic”; “Media”; “Culture” etc.)

As you locate jobs you are interested in, keep track of them using these organizational tips.
